Volunteering with the Crisis Line offers a unique and rewarding opportunity to help someone in need and to develop new skills. It is a powerful avenue for ongoing personal growth. It is also a great way to gain valuable employment-related skills, knowledge, and experience.
Our dedicated team of Crisis Line Volunteers provides emotional support, referral information, and crisis intervention to a diverse population of callers in distress 16 hours a day, 7 days a week. Callers seek support with a wide range of issues.
No specific experience is required to become a Crisis Line Volunteer. We provide 54 hours of comprehensive training in basic counselling skills and other topics including addictions, mental health, abuse, and crisis intervention.
Minimum Volunteer Requirements:
- 19 years of age or older
- Good command of spoken English
- Ability to listen well
- Non-judgmental
- Willing to learn
- Volunteer 4 hours every week, which includes one shift per month from 8pm-midnight
- Minimum commitment of 100 hours upon completion of training
- Complete a Criminal Record Check
