Crisis Line Volunteering

Are you passionate about making a difference for those who may need it most? Join us as a Crisis Line Volunteer!

Volunteering with the Chimo Crisis Line offers a unique and rewarding opportunity to develop new skills and help people in need. It is a powerful avenue for ongoing personal growth. It is also a great way to gain valuable employment-related skills, knowledge, and experience.

Our dedicated team of Crisis Line volunteers provide emotional support, non-violent crisis intervention, and referral information to a diverse population of callers in distress. The Chimo Crisis Line operates 16 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Training Details

In preparation for this role, Chimo provides over forty hours of training on topics such as:

  • Active Listening
  • Empathy
  • Basic Counselling
  • Substance Use
  • Mental Health
  • Abuse
  • Crisis Intervention

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 19 years of age
  • Good command of spoken English
  • Demonstrated ability to be empathetic
  • Capacity to be non-judgmental
  • Willingness to learn
  • Volunteer a minimum of 4 hours per week, which includes one shift per month from 8pm-midnight
  • A minimum commitment of 100 hours upon completion of training
  • Completion of a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check
