Volunteer with Chimo

Every year, more than 200 volunteers choose to donate their time, energy and skills to Chimo Community Services. We are proud to provide meaningful and challenging volunteer work – and thanks to this work, we are able to support people in our community with specialized, high-quality services.

Chimo is made up of people just like you: people who are looking for a way to give back to their community while developing valuable skills in their personal and professional lives. Our excellent training and on-going development will ensure that your time at Chimo is rewarding.

Crisis Line

Crisis Line volunteers provide emotional support, non-violent crisis intervention, and referral information to callers in distress.

Community Engagement Services

Community Engagement volunteers facilitate workshops in Richmond high schools on a wide range of topics, including: Suicide awareness, stress management, teen relationship abuse prevention, etc.

Outreach & Advocacy

Outreach and Advocacy volunteers assist clients with poverty law, domestic violence and crisis prevention issues.

Seniors Program

Seniors Program volunteers assist and empower Richmond seniors to engage and participate in their community through peer support.

Application Process

  • Upon receipt of the application form, the Volunteer Development Coordinator will review and contact applicants for a pre-screening phone meeting.
  • Qualified applicants will be invited to attend an interview with the Program Coordinator.
  • Reference checks will be conducted.
  • Accepted applicants will be provided with instructions regarding completion of Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check and payment of training fee.
  • Successful candidates are required to attend all mandatory training (core and program-specific) sessions. Evaluation of suitability is conducted throughout the training sessions as well.

Please note that applicants can only apply for one program at a time. Once accepted to a volunteer program, you will then be expected to fulfil the commitment requirement of that program before applying to another one.

Upcoming Programs 2024

We are currently finalizing the format and dates for our next training program, and we will provide a new schedule in early 2024. In the meantime, if you are interested in volunteering with us, please complete the Volunteer Application Form for the program that you are interested in and submit to volunteer@chimoservices.com.
