Volunteer with the Crisis Line!

Volunteering with the Crisis Line offers a unique and rewarding opportunity to help someone in need and to develop new skills. It is a powerful avenue for ongoing personal growth. It is also a great way to gain valuable employment-related skills, knowledge, and experience.

Our dedicated team of Crisis Line Volunteers provides emotional support, referral information, and crisis intervention to a diverse population of callers in distress 16 hours a day, 7 days a week. Callers seek support with a wide range of issues.

No specific experience is required to become a Crisis Line Volunteer. We provide 60 hours of comprehensive training in basic counselling skills and other topics including addictions, mental health, abuse, and crisis intervention.

Minimum Volunteer Requirements:

  • 19 years of age or older
  • Good command of spoken English
  • Ability to listen well
  • Non-judgmental
  • Willing to learn
  • Volunteer 4 hours every week, which includes one shift per month from 8pm-midnight
  • Minimum commitment of 100 hours upon completion of training

We invite you to apply to be a part of an exciting and worthwhile challenge and in doing so, help to carry out CHIMO’s mission: “Walking with people through crisis. Helping them make sound choices.”
