Community Engagement ServicesThrough a range of educational programs and workshops, Community Engagement Services help people gain the skills and resources to help themselves or someone else in a crisis or difficult situation.
SUICIDE AWARENESS [CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO]
Through this interactive presentation, students gain an awareness of warning signs, risk factors and feelings of suicide. Students also develop the skills to help someone who may be suicidal or experiencing a crisis. This workshop takes place over one or two sessions, and gives students a safe environment to talk and learn about suicide through a video and activities. In the second session, students build on their learning from the first session and practice effective communication skills.
STRESS MANAGEMENT [CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO]
A fun and insightful presentation aimed at helping senior high school students recognize stress levels and gain effective stress management and coping skills. Time management, organization and assertiveness are just some of the skills students gain through this workshop. These skills are essential in managing and coping with everyday stress, as well as added stress during exams, final projects and beginning life after high school!
STRESS MANAGEMENT AND SUICIDE AWARENESS FOR ESL CLASSES [CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO]
An interactive presentation designed to create a safe place for students to recognize and talk about their stressors, and how they can manage stress in their lives. Students also learn about depression and how extreme stressors can be risk factors for suicide. The session is wrapped up with an activity on how to help a friend who may be in crisis. This workshop is specifically designed for ESL students and creates safe learning opportunities through innovative activities that engage students by working in small groups, defining new vocabulary and participating in group discussions.
TEEN RELATIONSHIP ABUSE PREVENTION (TRAP) [CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO]
The TRAP workshop creates awareness of healthy and unhealthy relationships. Students learn about relationship abuse and gain skills to recognize an unhealthy relationship. Students also learn how to help someone who may be in an unhealthy relationship. In this workshop, a safe environment is created for students to discuss this sensitive topic through the use of group discussions, videos and small group activities. This workshop uses a peer-to-peer model, where senior high students and young adults deliver the workshops to younger students.
HOW TO LISTEN, HOW TO HELP STEPPING STONES

Organized in partnership with selected high schools, Youth Stepping Stones offers a range of practical community-based opportunities for Grades 11 and 12 students in leadership development classes to learn, experience, reflect, and build skills that help in making informed choices for the future. Opportunities include program volunteering, training in helping skills, job shadowing in the human service field, mentoring, and involvement in socially responsible community development projects. Benefits to students include added exposure, knowledge, skills, practical experience, community engagement, and confidence.
